It was pouring cats and dogs. Everything was damp and soggy. It was night and the streetlights were gone off. I was returning from work, exhausted. I had an umbrella in my hand but that was barely enough, the intensity of the rain pouring was high. My shoes and socks were drenched in the rain. I walked through the side path of the metalled road. While walking I could clearly hear the sound of the rain, pit pat, and splash! It was dark but the moon was shining brightly and I could see the road clearly ahead. Suddenly I heard a rustle somewhere from the bushes. I quickly twitched at the sound of that. I was scared for I have heard a lot of news about thieves stealing purses in nights like this. I clutched my purse tightly in my hands. I was standing there like I was glued to the earth. I didn’t have an idea, what to do. I stood there frozen. Then I heard the rustle again. I was curious now to know what was in there. I came closer to the bush and thought twice before acting, ‘what if it was a thief?’ or ‘what if it is a dangerous animal?’. But my curiosity didn’t allow me to just walk away. So I gathered all my courage and came closer to the bush and with my bare hands I parted it, to know who it was or what it was.
Relief swept through me as I saw it. It was just a cute little puppy with ginger like a color. It had wide eyes and cute floppy ears. I smiled at it. It was soaked and drenched in the rain. It was shivering in the cold. It looked at me with a pair of hopeful eyes. I was touched. I wanted to take that puppy to my home. Something from its behavior, I understood it was starving. My heart didn’t allow to leave the poor, cute, little thing there, all alone with no help. So I scooped it with my hands and covered it with my scarf. Then I walked towards home.
Reaching home I dried the puppy and gave him lukewarm milk and nice sweet dog biscuits. It ate it with greediness. It licked me with passion and love. It was so happy and I felt happy to see that the puppy has gained his health and was looking well. I named him Caesar. And that day I and Caesar slept well cuddled in each other’s arms.
